This winter has been extremely nice to Bombay. Despite it being February, that time of the year when we would’ve already been bad mouthing the sticky heat and the buckets of sweat, we are enjoying brilliant weather. Its just chilly enough to sit at a cafe and enjoy a cup of coffee, or cuddle up with some hot chocolate.
So I figured that with the winter drawing to a close, so shall the Hot Chocolate variation list.
This has to be my favorite variation of Hot Chocolate. Its rich, creamy and absolutely delectable. Its rich enough to be had as an indulgent comfort drink, its rich enough to be passed off as a sweet treat. The Hot Chocolate which absolutely floats my boat, the Italian Hot Chocolate.
Italian Hot Chocolate
Serves : 1 huge mug.
Difficulty : Easy Peasy. When that MS fellow in Amreeka can make it too, why can’t you?
Preparation Time : Nothing.
Cook Time :3 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup Milk
- 50-60 grams of Chocolate Chips
- 1 tbsp Cornflour
- A few Marshmallows (Optional)
While it is warming up, add the cornflour into the reserved milk.
Whisk it through, and ensure there aren’t any lumps in it. Keep this aside.
Once the milk is heated through, drop in the chocolate. Switch to low heat.
Quickly whisking the chocolate through, add the cornflour-milk to the chocolate milk.
Stirring through for a minute or two, you’ll see that the milk has thickened up and become extremely creamy.
Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Drop in a few marshmallows.
Sip. Lick. Yum.
The rich chocolate makes everything better. A rich chocolate drink in a warm mug on a winters day is nothing short of pure bliss.
Rest assured, you’ll be begging for more pretty quickly.

this sounds fantastic. i’ve never thought of thickening my hot chocolate what a great idea.
Thickening transcends the hot chocolate into another level altogether! Hope you enjoy it. 🙂
oh yes, so addictive !
Completely. 🙂
Best way to make Italian hot chocolate is without any cornflour/cornstarch
Heat milk, drop in a chopped up block of dark chocolate (and when I say dark I mean DARK) and constantly stir until it thickens on its own, probably something like 10-20 minutes
I don’t quite remember how many grams of chocolate you have to use exactly (I’ve been able to just estimate it) but it’s definitely a lot more than usual and is what allows the mixture to thicken.
Thanks for the tip Lia! Will definitely try that out soon.
