About Me

by ashmita

Ashmita Sengupta is a young woman who likes to believe she has a pronounced taste for all life’s small pleasures. Like immersing one’s foot in the sand on the beach, taking a walk in the rain, caramelizing onions or smelling a newly purchased book.

She is all of 27,  an MBA graduate with a Civil Engineering Degree & 4 years of work experience and absolutely zero Kitchen-Aid stand mixers (which was always her true life-long dream). Although she did recently get married to her best friend, so she can’t really complain.

Cooking is a late revelation in her life. Origin of this sudden passion to cook is a tad bit surprising since she grew up running away from the kitchen, as it would perennially smell of fried fish, as any other Bengali house. But in the throws of adulthood, she suddenly grew very fond of cooking. The bliss in trying out new recipes, in creating something from scratch, and experiencing the glee in taking the first bite herself, or watching her family and friends enjoy it, is what she cooks for. Even though those moment lasts for a few seconds.

Like Julia Child puts it perfectly, “Non cooks think it’s silly to invest two hours’ work in two minutes’ enjoyment; but if cooking is evanescent, so is the ballet.”

There is no limit to what she will, or won’t cook. One day she will decide to flip some Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Pancakes , and then turn her back and toss a Chicken Caesar Salad  the next hour.

But if you really are what you eat, she would be a big scrumptious chocolate chip muffin.

The Heavenly Hearth is her online cooking journal. She stumbles upon, she wonders, she chops, she sings, she cooks, she photographs and then she documents. Presence of unpremeditated song lyrics, trivia and bits on life amongst recipe measurements are known to be her forte.

She sincerely wishes that the events in her  kitchen inspire you enough to whip up something on your own, and have fun in the process as well. Else, she’d recommend just sitting back with a bowl of caramel popcorn and enjoy her absurd obsession to keep a record of the cooking endeavors in her heavenly hearth.

She hopes you’re around a while. Really.

Even i believe in simple pleasures like ‘Like immersing one’s foot in the sand on the beach, taking a walk in the rain, caramelising onions or smelling a newly purchased book.’ id like to add one more taking the late night train back home.
