Strawberries have been in season for a while, which means so has my obsession for everything Strawberry.
Every morning is a battle. This battle includes opponents like the alarm, the snooze button, the everyday want to hit the gym, the want to read a paper and finally, the hope of a full blown breakfast. How all of that is to be achieved after sleeping at 2 AM and while making it for a 9 AM lecture is a mystery I’m yet to solve.
However, some days are better than others.
While playing around trying to come up with deliciously healthy and filling smoothies on one of those good days – I stumbled across the glorious Strawberry Banana Oat Smoothie.
This smoothie has been my winter saviour. On early mornings breakfast rush and later afternoon hunger pangs. It is everything you want a smoothie to be – delicious, healthy, thick, filling and pretty.
Here’s what you’ll need –
So you might be aware how the might Banana has magical powers. It comes into this power once its frozen solid.
This magical power helps frozen banana chunks to turn into ice cream once blended. You can continue your wow-ness about this 1 ingredient ice cream with its infinite possibilities HERE.
So first step for this smoothie is to cut up banana chunks and stick em’ in the freezer overnight. Next morning, once they’re frozen solid, you’re good to go.
So the advantages for the Banana is three-fold.
- One, it acts as a thickening agent due to its magical ice-cream properties.
- Two, the frozen solid state eliminates the need for ice.
- Three, the natural sweetness of the banana is enough to sweeten the smoothie. No more sugar, honey to be added!
Anyway, since my blender is current MIA. I’m using my trusty hand-blender to do the job.
Adding the frozen Banana chunks.
Roughly chop up your strawberries and add them in too.
Number of strawberries to be added is directly dependent on your obsession with the strawberry flavour and the pink colour.
Though you could consider 2 medium sized strawberries are the bare minimum.
Add in a teaspoon of Flaxseed Powder.
(The mother has gotten me into this healthy habit. While the powder looks suspiciously funny, its benefits are immense. Add it in your shakes, cereal or smoothies. Your body will thank you!)
Finally, drop in the two tablespoons of Oats. I’ve used good old instant oats here, considering procuring rolled or steel cut oats in Mumbai are tougher than finding Waldo.
Oats are that magical ingredient which really help in making this smoothie filling.
Finally, add in the milk. (Skimmed milk, if you have trust issues with milk)
Once its all in and floating around suspiciously, its time to blend.
Stick in your trusty hand blender, and blend!
Within 30 seconds, you’ll have this gorgeous pink smoothie on your hands.
(Well, not literally on your hands until you spill it – which I*Erm*might have done more than once. Moral of the story – Don’t hurry with the blender!)
Pour out this gorgeous smoothie, garnish with MOAR strawberries if needed.
This is a great post-workout shake as well.
If you want a slight variation, 1 dollop of peanut butter completely sends this smoothie to another level. In a superb way.
So I hope you’re on your way to the fruit market to pick up your share of strawberries before they leave us for the year.
Help the strawberries help you lead tastier and stress free mornings.
This smoothie is so worth it.
